Burnout as a Call

Burnout is not always about fatigue. Sometimes it is the moment when your old life can no longer carry you forward, and your psyche is signaling that it is time to change direction.
We tend to think that if someone is burned out, they simply need a break. But often it is not that simple. A person sleeps, takes time off, goes away for a while, and still comes back feeling empty. That usually means the problem is not only workload. It is a transition.
I teach my clients to see the resource and energy behind any trauma and symptom. We learn to attach healing meaning to any challenge and turn the pain into fuel. I teach how to hear the inner calling, behind the burnout, when you see it not as a breakdown, but as an initiation point where the old system of meaning no longer holds and a new one has not yet taken shape.
At this point, the body often speaks before words do: heaviness in the chest, tight shoulders, shallow breathing, irritability, and a loss of taste for life.
Most of the time this is not laziness or weakness. It is a clear signal that living the old way is no longer possible.
Burnout often appears where a person has been living too long on duty, correctness, other people's expectations, and sheer effort. From the outside, life may still look successful, but inside there is no fuel left. And then the crisis becomes not an ending, but a turning point.
In my approach, the way out does not begin with forcing yourself to "pull it together." It begins with restoring contact with yourself. Through psychology, psychoanalysis, body-based work, and movement, a person starts to sense where they lost support.
Sometimes this resembles a stage in the hero's journey: first comes the call, then resistance kicks in, then abandonment, initiation and then a new form of life. Burnout is often telling you about that type of calling.
If this feels familiar, the signal should not be silenced. It is not breaking you. It is showing that the old structure has reached its limit, and a more alive, more precise, and more personal one is waiting to be built.
